Michal Bynard (Michael Binnard), ca. 1816-1855
Michal3 Bynard (Jakob2, Lewin1) was born between 1812 and 1818. No birth record has been found for him. He married Ryfka Epfelkier on 2 January 1837 in Rypin. His age in that record is given as 19 (born 1818) and his birthplace as Rypin. Ryfka, daughter of Hersz and Estera Epfelkier, was 22 and also born in Rypin.[1] Michal is listed as a surviving son in the death record of his father, Jakob Bynard, who died in 1837. In that record his age is given as 25 (born 1812).[2] In the birth record of his son, Jakob, born November 1837, his age is given as 20 (born 1817).[3] He was 21 at the birth of his daughter, Sara, in December 1838 (born 1817);[4] 28 at the birth of his son, Hersz Majer in 1844 (born 1816);[5] and 31 at the birth of his youngest daughter, Tune Temora in 1847 (born 1816).[6]
Michal might be the Michael Bennard enumerated in Butler County on the 1850 state census of Alabama. His household consisted of 2 white males between the ages of 21 and 45.[7] In the same year, Albert Binnard and John Bayer, Michael’s brother and nephew, were living nearby in Pike County.[8] By 1851 Michael, Albert, Birka, and Isidore Binnard were living in Montgomery, Alabama. They were among 21 men who founded the Hebrew Benevolent Society in November of that year.[9] Albert and Isidore Binnard died on 22 October 1854.[10] Michael is probably the M. Benard enumerated in Montgomery County on the 1855 state census. The household consisted of one white male over the age of 21.[11] Michael died in Montgomery on 24 October 1855. He is buried in the same place as Albert and Isidore--row 6 of the Land of Peace Cemetery. [12] On 23 October, the day before he died, he signed a will leaving bequests to his wife and children, his brother Morris Binnard, his sister Michle Bayer, and his niece Sarah Binnard, "the orphan." He mentioned the firm of Binnard and Bonstein and offered creditors 25% of what they were owed. He named his brother, “Birke Binnard,” and his nephew, John L. Bayer, as the executors.[13] Michael’s business partner, called Bonstein in the will, may have been the H. Bornstein who was elected a trustee of the Hebrew Benevolent Society in Montgomery in 1854.[14] Michael’s estate was declared insolvent in 1858. His heirs were listed as wife Rebecca and two minor children in Poland, Empire of Russia.[15] Children: 1. Jakob4 Bynard was born 21 Nov 1837 at Rypin, Poland;[16] he died 7 January 1838 at Rypin.[17] 2. Sara Bynard was born 3 December 1838 at Rypin, Poland;[18] she died 12 August 1841 at Rypin at the age of 2 ½.[19] 3. Hesse Bynard was born in 1841 and died 20 March 1842 at Rypin, Poland.[20] 4. Hersz Majer Bynard was born 8 Jun 1844 at Rypin, Poland.[21] 5. Tune Temora Bynard was born 23 March 1847 at Rypin, Poland.[22] _________________________ [1] Gminażydowska, Rypin, Matrykuła, 1808-1865.
