Petzel Bynard, ca. 1773-1845
Petzel2 (Lewin1) was born 1773-1777, according to records in Rypin, Poland. In 1811 he was called Petzel Lewin (Petzel, son of Lewin), age 34, when he witnessed the birth of his nephew Bendek, son of Jakob Lewin.[1] When he died on 31 March 1845 in Rypin, he was called Petzel Bynard, kramarz (stall-keeper), age 67. His survivors were his wife and three daughters: Antka, age 40, the wife of Kalman Sztencel; Ryfka, age 35, the wife of Michal Skop; and Chana, age 30, the wife of Szaia Stary.[2] A fourth daughter, Estera, died 3 January 1834 at the age of 12.[3] In that record Petzel’s age is given as 61, which would make his birth year 1773.
Petzel’s widow, called Mychla Bynerd in the death records, died 7 May 1855 in Rypin at the age of 80, making the year of her birth 1775. The record also gives an alternate death date of 19 May 1855, calculated by the Gregorian calendar. Three daughters survived her.[4]
